Just in case you haven’t already seen it, but the Queen Bee herself, Beyonce, surprised Colin Kaepernick Tuesday Dec 5th, 2017 with the Sports Illustrated’s Muhammad Ali Legacy Award. Some predicted he would end up getting the award, but very few, to none, expected that it would be Beyonce who personally handed him the award. But as big a deal as the award itself, was the speech Beyonce gave as she presented Kaepernick with the award. For reasons that should obvious to all, it has gone absolutely viral, as it should. Its been said that racism is so American that when we protest racism, some assume we’re protesting America.
They have drawn all kinds of praise, and on the opposite end, some scorn as well, with even some going so far as to say they will have an enormous negative impact on Beyonce’s career. Who those critics of what she said are, isn’t even important enough to merit any serious attention, because, as usual, they are wrong and are also on the wrong side of history. Beyonce said what needed to be said, because it’s the truth. Let’s not forget that Martin Luther King Jr., now viewed as a hero in this country, was once a target by the FBI. We aren’t comparing Beyonce to MLK, but its an example that sometimes what’s right isn’t always socially acceptable.

“Thank you, Colin Kaepernick. Thank you for your selfless heart and your conviction. Thank you for your personal sacrifice. Colin took action with no fear of consequence or repercussion. Only hope to change the world for the better. To change perception. To change the way we treat each other, especially people of color who are still waiting for the world to catch up.
